To My Conservative Friends
By Derek Paulhus (Harvard College Undergraduate)
To my conservative friends complaining about the anti-Trump protests,
Let us remember that before President Obama even took office Republicans vowed to block and obstruct everything that he stood for. If he was for it, conservatives would be against it without even giving him a chance.
Let us remember that President-elect Trump was a leader of the birther movement challenging President Obama’s being American, and demanding that he fork over his birth certificate.
Let us remember the Tea-Party supporters who rallied to “put the white back in White House,” and who chanted “Kenyan go home” when Obama visited Orlando.
Do we need national unity? Of course. But don’t hypocritically pretend that many republicans and conservatives played no role in the divisions that exist today.
