Jake Bjork

My name is Jacob Reed Bjork and I am attending at Washington University in St. Louis. I grew up in a rural town of 1,000 people in Somonauk, IL, and moved 20 miles north to attend Sycamore High School. I am currently a pre-medical student, and I hope to major in cognitive neuroscience and fashion design. One quote that accurately describes who I am is written by Walt Whitman:  “Do I contradict myself? Very well then I contradict myself, I am large, I contain multitudes.” Amongst those multitudes is my struggle growing up as a religious LGBT youth in a non-accepting community. This has heavily influenced my passion for writing, as well as my career interests. One day, I hope to become a physician who provides and advocates for equal healthcare access to people of all identities. I might even create a genderless line of clothing to help eliminate binaries held in inanimate objects. Who knows? In the meantime, I am doing what I can to educate and promote positive discussion about LGBT issues and stigmas. Spread love and promote the peace!

Sidenote: I also would/want to write about disabilities and health care.
